Shabach Shalom: A visit to the Jewish Synagogue

On Friday November 13, our human and spiritual outing took us to the Jewish Synagogue on Charles Street, Downtown Kingston.

It was an eye opener for those making the trip for the first time. From floor covered in sand to the lofty singing of the three-member choir it was truly a new religious experience with an added bonus of a lesson in history.

The evening’s service was specially done in memory of those who fought in the First and Second World Wars as well as for those who were lost in other battles that Israel Participated in.

We read and sang (what we could understand)  from the Torah which, is the Jewish holy book and participated in the Kiddesh which is like a communion. After this, we sampled various Jewish delicacies, viewed Jewish artefacts and read about the history of the Jews in Jamaica.
